Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where will my session take place?

A: I can photograph you at home or at a different location of your choice. If you don’t already have a particular location in mind, I can suggest a range of beautiful outdoor locations, from forests to fields to beaches to gardens. On the other hand, an in-home session is perfect for capturing your daily life in your own space. I recommend in-home sessions for newborns, because this allows you and your family to relax in a familiar environment while we work around your newborn’s schedule.

Q: How much will my session cost?

A: I offer a range of pricing packages which lets you tailor your shoot to your own preferences. You can find my current prices under the Pricing tab above. To calculate how much your session would cost, first choose the length of shoot you want (this will be your Session Fee). Then choose the number of digital images you would like (this will be your Digital Images
Package).

Session Fee + Digital Images Package = total cost of session.

If your party is larger than 10 people, the minimum digital image package I offer is 50 photos. Keep this in mind when calculating your total price!

Q: I/my husband/my dog/my house isn’t
photogenic/isn’t comfortable in front of the camera. Should we still book a session?

A: Don’t stress – most people feel this way! This is why you’re hiring a professional 🙂 I will give you all the feedback you need to pose naturally, get into the most flattering light, and generally look and feel your best. If we are doing an in-home session, all your house needs is a basic tidying up. I have taken photos in all kinds of houses and will be able to identify the best locations for your family’s pictures. And if you’re worried about fussy babies, grumpy toddlers, angsty teenagers or reluctant husbands – I’ve got heaps of experience with all of the above… and have developed an arsenal of advanced level ninja tricks for getting great photos regardless.

Q: Where are you based? Are you
willing to travel?

A: I am based in Geelong and will travel free of charge to anywhere in the Geelong region, including Lara, the Bellarine & Torquay. I charge $100 travel fee for sessions in Melbourne and Ballarat. If you have another location in mind, feel free to reach out!

Q: What should I wear for my session?

A: The most important thing is to wear something you feel relaxed and natural in. You can be as dressy or as casual as you like. Beyond that, a few universal tips:

  • Aim for neutrals, earth tones, jewel tones or pastel colours
  • Solid colours or subtle patterns are best
  • Textured fabrics (eg. denim, linen, corduroy, knits) photograph really well
  • Avoid black or other dark shades (they appear blocky)
  • Avoid neon colours, loud patterns, images & logos
  • Dress babies warmly and in layers (cold babies get grumpy, but also appear blue-ish – not ideal!)

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: Your session fee is due as a deposit in advance of the shoot. For cancellations at least one week in advance, 50% of your session fee will be returned. For cancellations less than one week in advance, the session fee is nonrefundable. In the event of poor weather, you will have the choice of either using an indoor location (I can recommend some) or rescheduling your shoot. If there are other unavoidable obstacles to completing the shoot as scheduled (eg. illness) you will have the chance to reschedule.

Q: When will I get my photos back?

A: Galleries of 100 photos or less are guaranteed to be returned within one week of your session. Galleries of more than 100 photos are guaranteed to be returned within two weeks of your session. However, unlike many photographers, I aim to edit each gallery immediately after the session, and am often able to return your photos within only a day or two 🙂

Q: Any tips for our session?

A: For an outdoor shoot, wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes and bug spray! Being physically comfortable will make your photos more relaxed and natural. For an indoor shoot, open curtains and turn off indoor lights – the more natural light, the better! If you have young children, consider bringing snacks, toys or props to the session to keep them entertained. For example, some clients bring bubbles, balloons, or favourite stuffed toys (aren’t they part of the family too?) – all of which can make for fun photos.

Q: Do you photograph weddings?

A: I do. Feel free to get in touch for further information.
